Ellen Lee, MD is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) and a Staff Psychiatrist at the San Diego VA Healthcare System. Her research focuses on the inflammatory mediators of sleep disturbances in older adults with serious mental illnesses. Dr. Lee is the PI of a K23 career development award from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), a NARSAD Young Investigator Award from the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation, as well as several grants from VISN 22 Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Center and the UCSD Clinical and Translational Research Institute.

Hello! My name is Stephanie and I am a college graduate from UC Santa Cruz with a B.S. in Cognitive Science and a B.A. in Psychology. I am from Los Angeles and recently moved to San Diego. I am interested in working with individuals who have severe mental illnesses and learning about the different impacts it can have on their cognition and daily life. I will ultimately purse a PhD in Clinical Psychology. In my spare time, when I'm not in the lab, I enjoy going to the beach and trying new restaurants.

Hello, Everyone! I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Minor in Sociology from California State University, Long Beach, in 2020, and my Master of Arts in Psychology from San Diego State University in 2022. I have previous experience in project coordination, teaching, mentoring, and producing posters and a thesis. I have also worked with children, adolescents, young adults, older adults, and veterans. Before joining the Lee Laboratory, I was a Research Recruiter for the Green Laboratory at the West Los Angeles VA Hospital. In my spare time, I like to spend time with my Husband and my yellow Labrador Retriever, Goose.

I am currently an Advanced Fellow in the VA's Mental Illness Research, Education, and Clinical Center (MIRECC) and a Visiting Scholar in the Psychiatry Department at UCSD. I received my PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Arizona in 2024 and completed my predoctoral clinical internship at UCSD/VA San Diego. My research focuses on factors that impact social functioning in patients with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) including sleep and social cognition. In my free time, I love taking my Australian Cattle Dog on adventures, trying new restaurants, and playing various NYT word games.

I’m from San Bernardino, CA, and my research interests are in using and developing biomarkers to preserve brain health in neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders, as well as understanding how cognition is impacted among these disorders. I plan to pursue a PhD in Clinical Psychology and aspire to become a Clinical Neuropsychologist. In my spare time, I enjoy playing the violin and watching my favorite shows.

I received a B.A. from Bowdoin College in 2021 with a major in Neuroscience and a minor in Sociology. In my time with the Lee Lab, I have recruited participants, conducted assessments, and collected sleep data for Dr. Lee's SNOOZE study. I am currently coordinating the SNOOZE and Psychosis and Aging study, as well as preparing for the launch of the PAP treatment trial. Additionally, I have worked on collecting sleep data on the UCSD Stein Institute's MIDAS and SZR01 studies using FitBits and home sleep testing devices.
I'm originally from Hayward, CA, but I grew up in Phoenix, AZ. I love baking, exploring San Diego, and taking road trips whenever I have the chance!

I have a bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology and have learned a lot in Ellen’s lab, working on multiple projects relating to loneliness, compassion, and physical health in people with schizophrenia and in older adults. Currently, I work as a junior research specialist at UCSF investigating the role of astrocytes in the pathology of frontotemporal dementia and plan to apply to biomedical neuroscience PhD programs in the upcoming cycle.
